Why You’re Not Reaching Your Goal & How to Get There
You know when you pick up a book that just blows you away?
Uplifted, soaring, eye-opening – that’s how I’ve been feeling with Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map, and you know what?
It moves me.
I’m all about this mantra: move your body – change your life. It’s the essence of exercise, the reason for workouts, and my message to the world.
But here’s the thing: Exercise is more than firm arms, strong legs, or a toned body. Exercise is an expression of how you live your life. MOVING is a better way to describe it… but what is IT?
For you, maybe it’s starting the business, committing to your health with a daily green juice, or signing up for the event. Whatever IT is – here’s the question: Are you doing what you say you’re going to do? Proactive. Engaged. Taking the next step. Moving.
Danielle’s work is about helping people connect with their core desires. The Desire Map is “a guide to what you want the most.” It’s about getting clear on what our goal-setting, achievements, and every action we take (or want to take) is all about. It’s the answer to WHY we move.
You can imagine why I’m soaking this up…
I agree with Danielle when she says that we have goal-setting all backwards. Basically we come up with our list, we make them SMART goals, we write down all the stuff we want to get, accomplish, or do. In reality, it’s all driven by one thing, and if we don’t clear on that ONE thing – we’re stuck and unmotivated.
Here’s the question: How do you want to feel when you look at your training plan? When you lace up your running shoes? When you go to the gym? When you sweat your butt off during a workout? When you show up at the start line? When you cross the finish line… How do you want to feel from the inside out?
What I’ve realized is that goals are empty without feelings. It’s not that the feeling isn’t there. The truth is that it’s MOVING us one way or the other. The problem is when we don’t recognize what the feeling is, when we don’t connect with it, or move with it – we miss the ride and the adventure.
I want to feel free, strong, content, grounded…
Knowing how you want to feel more than knowing what your goals are is probably deeper territory than you’ve gone before.
Here’s the best part: when you want to feel free, more than you want to lose the last 10 pounds. When you want to feel adventurous, more than you want to check a workout off your to-do list. When you want to feel good, more than you want to look good. When you want to feel loved, more than you want to fit into your skinny jeans.
When you know what you really want (your desires), you may go after things differently. When you go after things differently, you get different results.
Want more motivation? Want to hit that time goal? Want to lose the last 5 pounds?
Move now. Dig deep into how you want to feel when you move.
